From the Director

It’s MARCH! Hopefully Duke BB rights the ship as we head into March Madness! Lots of great things going on in the program otherwise… most importantly is the CHARITY AUCTION on MARCH 6! Many thanks in advance to Payton Kendsersky, Ahmad Mourad and Bhavik Patel for their hard work planning what is sure to be an awesome night.

Please pay attention to all the communications about SARS-CoV-2 (“the coronavirus”). Things are changing rapidly, and we have an awesome team directing the response at Duke. We are looking to get some face-to-face discussion time with the experts, so stay tuned.

If you haven’t done your LMS module for student direct observations, PLEASE DO SO! We will be reminding you throughout the month and posting the link at the beginning of noon conference so you can get the module done while you wait for conference to start.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Neha Keyastha for an awesome chair’s conference, to Sam Rauch from Dr Deepal Shah-Zamora for being an astute clinician who reacted quickly to save a patient’s life, to Alissa Stavig from Dr. Fuad Bohsali for fantastic work on Duke Night Float, to Marge Deoliviera from Tia Williams for being a fantastic doc in the ED, and to Marius Chukwurah and (alum) Sipa Yankey for representing Duke at the Howard University Residency Fair. Kudos to Alan Witt from Sonal Patel for excellent patient care in PRIME (taking a good history saved a patient’s life), and to Lara Hayes for her awesome Chief Resident presentation at NC-ACP. Also HUGE KUDOS to Cameron Oswalt (with mentor and IM Res alum Dr. Laura Caputo) for winning the poster competition at this weekend’s NC-ACP meeting!

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our Doctor’s Dilemma team at the NC-ACP of Sara Coles, Sean Doerfler and Jeremy Brooksbank

Have a great week!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
