Internal Medicine Residency News, March 22, 2021

From the Director

Match Day is in the books! Virtual Match Day has a different feel, but again a huge thanks to all for your help and commitment in recruiting our newest interns!

Time is winding down on your opportunity to complete your ACGME Survey. If you haven’t completed it yet, look for an email today with your survey link. We’d love to get to 100 percent participation.

Kudos this week to our gold star winners Sara Coles, DaMarcus Ingram, Michael Burt, Bhavik Patel, Kristen Corey, Sukrit Jain, Kirsten Binz, Rabab Ali and John Barber! Gold stars are when patients or families specifically mention your outstanding care to the hospital or clinics! Wear with pride! From the VA, to Tim Hopper, Ryan Duffy and Carlos Barbery for going above and beyond to care for a veteran (the equivalent of a VA gold star, this veteran sent his kudos into the VA system)

Our future chief Lonnie Sullivan (along with residency alums Drs. Aimee Chung and John Roberts) won the medical student Golden Apple teaching awards for the year. Congratulations and well deserved!

Other kudos this week to Amber Meservey from former Neuro resident and now outpatient attending Dr. Casey Farin for writing an outstanding dc summary for a patient who followed up in clinic, to Sam Dizon from Swapna Musunur for being a stellar 9100 NF SAR, to Mary Jo Obeid and Nathan Hirshman for outstanding Cohen Conferences, to Karina Mora Massad from Neesha Nama for being a compassionate and thoughtful physician, to Lonnie Sulivan from Roshni Dhoot for great teaching in the CICU, to Sunny Chung from Maxine Chan for his JAR-team lead skills (and karaoke) at the VA, to Michael Cosiano from Daniel Bernstein for advocating for a patient to get the right level of care on NF, to Chris Asuzu from Sarah Moserowitz for being an exceptional SAR and also personally transporting a patient, to Swapna Musunur and Jordan Infield from Sam Dizon for great work on 9100 nights, to Daniel Bernstein and Vivian Chen-Andrews for strong Gen Med work from Sara Coles, to Neesha Nama, Tim Hopper and Chelsea Perfect for being an awesome MICU Team from Tingrui Zhao, and to Melanie Cabezas, Saad Atiq and Michael Cosiano from Aman Kansal for NF teamwork.

A Year for the Record Books
Sending out a huge thank you to the clinical leads, Lynn Bowlby, Jeff Clough, Sonal Patel, and Leigh Wynkoop for all the work they have done over the past year navigating uncertainty, adapting to change, and keeping our patients and trainees safe throughout the pandemic.

Ambulatory Threads and Academic Half Day
Another huge shout out goes to all of the Education Leads who have been working hard to keep the Academic Half Day teaching going during the pandemic. Thank you to: Cristiana Costa, Stephen Bergin, Mike Harrison, Carly Kelley, Darsh Kothari, Micah McClain, Toyosi Onwuemene, Neha Pagidipati, John Roberts, Sophia Weinmann. Your leadership has been critical!

The threads have had their ups and downs during this year, but they are still going strong and are in the process of revision for next year as faculty schedule changes are incorporated. Please share any feedback or questions about the threads with Dani or Hannah.

Pharmacy faxes in your email
Reminder that, if the residency office emails you with a clinic-related fax that they received, please forward through the triage process at your own clinic. Feel free to ask Dani or Hannah for help!

From the Residency Office

2022-23 Chief Resident for Quality and Safety (CRQS)
This position is open to those who would be either PGY-4s or PGY-5s during that year (you can consider applying if you are either a current JAR or SAR). If you are a SAR, you should check with your fellowship program director (if applicable) to make sure they are willing to release you for the year to join us. For those interested, the next step is to contact Govind Krishnan or Joel Boggan to express interest and learn a bit more about the position. We will schedule face to face (zoom to zoom?) meetings and informational sessions so that you can learn more in the next few weeks.
