Internal Medicine Residency News, March 29, 2021

From the Director

And March is coming to an end this week! Whoa!!! Brackets are forgotten (at least mine are), and we are heading into serious pollen season. We have some good stuff coming up, including submissions for Faculty Resident Research Grants for 2021-22, as well as submissions for the 2021 Resident Research Day Grand Rounds/Califf Awards (see emails from Dr.Mitchell), rising SAR mini-retreats and "How to Be A JAR" sessions! Plus this week we have our discussion with Dr. Dale Okorodudu about the "Black Men in White Coats" movie, with Drs. Lonnie Sullivan and Marius Chukwurah (as well as residents from UNC and Wake Forest) serving as panelists!

Kudos
Kudos this week to Tingrui Zhao for being a supportive, fun, and helpful call buddy in the MICU from Neesha Nama, to Katherine Zhou from the nursing staff on 7700 for being extremely responsive to pages and taking great care to communicate with patients, to Vinay Choksi for an outstanding SAR talk and to Sunny Chung for his excellent Cohen Conference!

This week is your LAST CHANCE to fill out your ACGME survey. It closes on March 30! Thank you for taking time to do this!

Congrats to Drs. Joel Boggan and L Lin Ong on the newest member of the Duke Family!!!  (Name TBD)

Pubmed from the Program
This weeks pubmed from the program goes to Rachel Tobin for her recent publication! Daughety, M., Morgan, A., Frost, E., Kao, C., Hwang, J., Tobin, R., Patel, B., Fuller, M., Welsby, I., Ortel,T. BMWC Discussion with Dr. Dale Okorodudu
Please join us in collaboration with Wake Forest IM and UNC IM for our discussion of the Black Men In White Coats movie with Duke IM alum Dr. Dale Okorodudu.  Panelists will include our outstanding SARs Drs. Marius Chukwurah and Lonnie Sullivan! March 31, 2021 at 7 p.m. Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/99160750858?pwd=dHAvOHlpWWdsYVhkdVRtYkJ1a3F2UT09

2022-23 Chief Resident for Quality and Safety (CRQS)
This position is open to those who would be either PGY-4s or PGY-5s during that year (you can consider applying if you are either a current JAR or SAR). If you are a SAR, you should check with your fellowship program director (if applicable) to make sure they are willing to release you for the year to join us. For those interested, the next step is to contact Govind Krishnan or Joel Boggan to express interest and learn a bit more about the position. We will schedule face to face (zoom to zoom?) meetings and informational sessions so that you can learn more in the next few weeks.
