From the Director

Happy National Doctor’s Day. Given what is happening in the world, I am more thankful than ever for our amazing health care team (and teams around the world) who are doing the hour by hour and day by day work to care for people during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, as well as the tremendous advances we have made as a healthcare community in such a short time – particularly the collaboration and data sharing across systems, the commitment to ongoing education and the community support for everyone, as we are all affected in large and small ways.

I think that many of you have gotten your free coffees at the local Starbucks (drive through ones). What else is out there for healthcare workers? Free Krispy Kreme donuts (haven’t done this yet, but will on my way in tomorrow), and I believe that Tuesday has free Doritos Locos Tacos at Taco Bell. Not saying that it is healthy. Just sayin’ that it is free. Taco Tuesday.  Indeed.

In other program news … thank you to our chiefs and ACRs for bringing us the VIRTUAL CURRICULUM. Super excited for all the learning they have put together. Check your email for the map of the week’s carefully curated resources for inpatient learning (COVID topics) and outpatient learning (Musculoskeletal). Also our ongoing Wednesday town halls.

Kudos
Kudos this week go to Nathan Hirshman from Dr. Jeff Clough and the Pickett Team for his fantastic leadership at Pickett last week, to Tareq Aljurf, Tim Hopper and Bryan Golubski from hepatology fellow Howard Lee for being an awesome gen med team taking care of several sick GI patients, and to Brittany Chapman and Aaditya Khatri from Kyle Geurink for stellar “ready to be a JAR" work on Duke Gen Med.

PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Sara Coles for her (virtual) presentation at the American College of Cardiology meeting “Acute ST Elevation With Constrictive Pericarditis: A Unifying Diagnosis or Two Separate Entities” with co-authors Amanda Coniglio, Jatin Amand and Carmelo Milano.

Stay safe and stay connected,
Aimee

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
