From the Director
Happy DOCTOBERFEST!!!
Looking forward to a fun month where we celebrate our community and the great work that you all do everyday. Thanks to Chidi Egwim, Alison Vasan, Kahli Zeitlow, AJ Blood, Titus Ng’Eno, Wynn Seay, John Musgrove, Kavisha Singh and Tia Williams for the Doctoberfest excitement pics (se a few below). We have a lot of fun events planned (and even some educational items as well). Thanks to Erin, Lynsey, Tia, Madi and Jen for all the planning!
Don’t forget to sign up for the STEAD TREAD, a great way to “pre-game” workout for all the PSL’s you might consume in October, it’s excellent training for Turkey Bowl and it supports a fantastic cause – Lincoln Community Health Center. We are also very excited about the first annual Stead Family Faculty-Resident BBQ on Oct 9. Thanks so much to Kahli Zietlow, Lish Clark, Matt Labriola, et al for planning. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Kudos this week to Zach Wegermann from Mary Moon, nurse manager at Duke Regional Hospital, for serving as an excellent example of inter-professional collaboration on the new inter-professional rounds at DRH. Also kudos to Ani Kumar for his SAR talk on DVT/PE, and to Dr. G (Anthony Galanos) and Vickie Leff for leading our third Intern Debrief.
Tanya Aylward wants to give a shout-out to Devon Taylor, the ED intern currently on Gen Med, for being so conscientious as to stay an extra hour to ensure patient safety during sign-out, and also to Shannon Niedermeyer, the IM intern for working hard on Gen Med, for somehow finding time to read the papers her SAR gives her.
It’s time to schedule that advising meeting. If you haven’t heard from your advisor, please let me or Madi know. We look forward to talking with each of you during October and November. We are also looking forward to the intern retreat on Tuesday. Thank you very much to the JARs and SARs who are covering so that the interns can get some time together as a class. We will be setting the dates for the Spring rising-JAR and rising-SAR retreats relatively soon so that we can ease the schedule gymnastics as much as possible. Thanks to Jen and Lynsey, we are also getting the clinic schedules booked out through the end of the year; we are very much hoping that this will improve your ability to see your patients back in clinic and set their appointment before they leave their current visit.
Be on the lookout for a coaching preferences survey. We have our coaches scheduled for training on October 14 and October 17 (with a noon conference by Kerri Palamara, the founder of the coaching program), and we are excited to get started with this before the winter holidays.
This week’s PubMed from the Program goes to Stephen Kimani, for his ACP grant with Aparna Kamath: “Educational Intervention to Provide HVC for Community Acquired Pneumonia."
Have a great week and Happy DOCTOBERFEST!
Aimee
