From the Director
Here we go! Lot’s happening in the residency as we get ready to have ERAS open for medical students next week (interns, can you believe it?). I hope some of you had the chance to enjoy the employee day at the Duke Football game this weekend. Education-wise, there was a great grand rounds featuring four junior faculty-led teams who are using data science to improve health for our patients – if this interests you, please reach out and we can help you begin to find mentorship.
This week on Tuesday at 4 p.m. we have our first “virtual mentoring” session from Duke Med alum and current MD Anderson oncologist Dr. Van Morris, who is on our Leadership Council! Join us on a Skype call for mentoring about the heme-onc fellowship interview process as well as questions about fellowships and careers in oncology. Open to interns, JARs and SARs – join us in the MedRes Library!
Check out our DukeFamily hiking in Asheville this weekend! What a great way to spend a beautiful day.
Kudos
Kudos this week go to Cassie Lautredou on her outstanding chair’s conference, to Dennis Narcisse and Nancy Yang for being inspiring SARs who did an amazing job promoting excellent patient care, helping the team to run efficiently, and overall making Duke Gen Med a great experience for both the team and for patients from Sean Taasan and (belated) to our intern class ResCo representatives Andrew Andreae, Hayley Cunningham, James Helzberg and Erin Song, and prelim rep Tammy Hsu.
Congratulations to Lynsey Michnowicz and Robert Allen Easley on their wedding this weekend! We enjoyed celebrating with you – what a beautiful wedding! And congratulations to Duke IM alums Mike Murn and Corey Bradley on their engagement!
PubMed from the Program
This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Chelsea Perfect for her article published in BMC Medicine – great work Chelsea! A systematic review of clinical guidelines on the management of acute, community-acquired CNS infections. Sigfrid L, Perfect C, Rojek A, et al. BMC Medicine volume 17, Article number: 170 (2019).
Have a great week!
