From the Director

The pace has not slowed down! Interns and SARs, if you have not signed up for your end of year meetings with me or Dr Hargett, please reach out to Bridget and sign up now! JARs, we will meet with you over the summer.

ERAS opens shortly for those applying to fellowship, so please pay attention to those dates and send your letter of recommendation requests when they become available. If you are graduating, it is time to make sure your view alerts at the VA are all cleared out, your in basket is tidied up and that all of those modules are completed before you go.  We are excited to celebrate our SARs and to hear from our chiefs at Grand Rounds, two of the best end of year traditions.   We know it has been super active on the assist list and many many thanks to all for your help.

This past week we had a highly competitive Housestaff vs Faculty Basketball Game in our new location … Card Gym.  Congrats to the faculty on the 3 point victory and to all who competed.  ACLT had strong advocacy efforts on behalf of our patients and our three Califf award winners (Sukrit Jain, Aaditya Khatri and Audrey Zhang) were outstanding presenting their work at Grand Rounds.  Also kudos to our poster winners Michelle Ferreira, Colin Smith and JT Tanaka!  Don’t forget to view all the posters in our online gallery CLICK HERE.  And huge thanks to the Pickett Road faculty for continuing the tradition of a Pickett SAR night!

Kudos

Other kudos this week to Jon Kusner from Carter Devlin for his amazing care of patients on VA Gen Med, to Dr Schuyler Jones from the VA JARs for precepting an outstanding CAT conference, to Rachel Tobin from Sean Taasan for helping out at the DOC, to Tyler Couch from a patient in the CICU for exceptional care, to Ryan Keane from Dr Greenblatt for going above and beyond at the DOC, to SeaBass Franco and Rachel Tobin from Ryan Keane for help with coverage at the DOC, to Casey Howe and Sean Taasan from Emory Buck for helping her on a busy clinic day and to John Barber for his quick thinking on NF (also from Emory Buck).  Kudos also to Omar Martinez-Uribe for his selection as a Future Leader at DDW! Kudos to Jessica Nipper and Bridget Copen for their amazing work on Resident Research Day.

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to all of our poster submitters for the annual resident research day! Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
