Yi-Ju Li, PhD and Simon Gregory, PhD, both investigators with the Center for Human Genetics, and their collaborators from the Duke Eye Center, Natalie Afshari, MD, MA and Gordon Klintworth, MD, PhD, were recently awarded a grant from the National Eye Institute to conduct the largest genome wide association study in Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy to date.
The work, which will be carried out at the Center for Inherited Disease Research with collaborators from Case Western Reserve University and Johns Hopkins University, will provide critical insights into the genetic basis of Fuchs, an eye disease that is a significant cause of corneal transplants.
