Obesity is one of Dr. Matthew Maciejewski's main research areas, which is why it was no surprise when we saw two recent articles on this topic published in The Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM). Both articles arr e-pubs ahead of print, to be published in the April issue of JGIM.
Maciejewski is senior author on one entitled, "A Health Services Research Agenda for Bariatric Surgery Within the Veterans Health Administration". The paper discusses how a all-inclusive research and clinical management plan for veterans with obesity will be essential in the years to come and bariatric surgery will be an important part of this multidisciplinary effort.
In the second article, "A System-Level Approach to Overweight and Obesity in the Veterans Health Administration", Maciejewski is the second author. In this, the study team recommends four system-level strategies to facilitate development and implementation of an integrated framework for management of overweight and obese patients in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
