MGR: Removing Barriers to Care, Presented by Albanese and Shannon

This week’s Medicine Grand Rounds on November 11 features the important and timely topic, "Removing Barriers in Clinical Care Delivery", presented by Duke University Health System leaders Craig Albanese, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and Richard P. Shannon, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer.

It's a big issue today in a post-pandemic world,” says Armando Bedoya, MD, MMCi, assistant professor in the division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and a leader in the application of information technology in the department’s clinical operations. “We can't continue to do the same things that we were doing in the past. The finances are tighter so the process needs to be essentially tighter, to be able to take care of the patients that we need to in the hospital at this time.”

The following guiding questions will be highlighted during this session:

  1. Why is this important, and why now?
  2. What does “Length of Stay” mean to frontline providers?
  3. What is and should the health system be doing to address Length of Stay?
  4. What can we, as a department do, to address Length of Stay?
  5. How does involving patients and their families in their care journey potentially affect Length of Stay?
  6. Where do team members go if they have ideas for improvement?
