The American Society of Nephrology, which has posted the preliminary program for the annual Kidney Week scientific meeting to be held this November in Philadelphia, has announced the Michelle P. Winn, MD, Endowed Lectureship. The lectureship honors Michelle Winn, MD, associate professor of medicine (Nephrology) for her "wide-ranging achievements in glomerular disease and genetics, as well as her many contributions to increasing opportunities in medicine and research." "This honor recognizes Michelle for her significant contributions to science and her devotion to mentoring," said Laura P. Svetkey, MD, MHS, professor of medicine (Nephrology) and vice chair for Faculty Development and Diversity.

"The department and her colleagues are so pleased to see Michelle honored in this way," added Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine. "We are very proud of her."

Support for this endowed lectureship came from a partnership including ASN, Duke University School of Medicine, the Department of Medicine's Division of Nephrology, and several individuals.

Andrey Shaw, MD, professor of pathology and immunology at Washington University in St. Louis, has been selected to give the inaugural Michelle P. Winn Endowed Lectureship. He will present a lecture on “Genetics of Human FSGS” Fri., Nov. 14 (during Kidney Week).
