She fills the position most recently held by Nate Martinez-Wayman, who moved over to a position in Duke's Office of Sponsored Programs. Torres recently served as director of pre-award services for the University of Central Florida’s Office of Research and Commercialization. She has held leadership positions in pre-award, research development, contracts and grants administration, and compliance during her 16-year tenure at UCF and Florida International University.  An accomplished writer and lecturer, she wrote the proposal to create the Master’s Degree in University Research Administration program at UCF. Having obtained funding for her proposal from NCURA, her efforts were instrumental in creating the degree program.  She also currently serves as an adjunct instructor for the program teaching the “Grant and Contract Management” and “Contracting for Sponsored Programs” courses. Torres was elected Chair-elect of the Region III of the National Council of Research Administrators. "I am very excited to have Laurianne join the senior staff of the Department and look forward to the many contributions she will make to support and promote our faculty and staff engaged in the research mission," Doty said. Torres started at Duke Oct. 31.
