What a great day we had yesterday in the residency program!
Last night was our first annual Resident Research Night, which was also a great success. We were pleased to have a strong turnout of faculty, fellows, residents and medical students!
29 posters were presented by DOM residents and fellows. 15 residents entered the oral abstract competition, and a distinguished committee of faculty chose 3 trainees for the oral abstract presentations (The Califf Resident Research Award).
Faculty and residents alike were phenomenally impressed by Callie Coombs, MD (PGY-1), Seth Martin, MD (PGY-3), and Ann Marie Navar-Boggan, MD, PhD (MedPeds PGY2) who presented their research last night. Congratulations to these three winners of the Califf Awards (1st place tie for Callie and Ann Marie, 3rd place for Seth), and also congratulations to their mentors Mark Lanasa, Tracy Y. Wang, and Eric Peterson.
Additional congratulations goes to April Barnado Wheless, MD (PGY2) for winning the best poster competition. (Catch a glimpse of her discussing her poster in the video below.)
The research night could not have been possible without the tremendous efforts of Murat Arcasoy, MD not only for planning a fantastic evening, but for his unflagging support of resident research throughout the year.

Fellowship match
Our residents had an absolutely outstanding fellowship match, and we will be well represented at the top programs around the country (and here at Duke) with 13 residents matching in cardiology, 6 pulmonary critical care, 6 gastroenterology, 6 hematology-oncology, 3 endocrinology, 3 infectious diseases, 2 rheumatology and 2 nephrology. Speaking for all involved in the program, we are tremendously proud of the hard work and accomplishments to date of all our trainees, and look forward to following their careers with great pride.Resident Research Night
