Pitt receives 2015 Harrington Scholar-Innovator grant

Geoffrey Pitt, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (Cardiology), has been named a 2015 Harrington Scholar-Innovator grant recipient. The awards, funded by The Harrington Discovery Institute at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, support the nation’s best physician-scientists and their efforts to accelerate promising drug discoveries into novel treatments for patients. Dr. Pitt's project will focus on the development of a novel class of drugs that increase bone mass. The 11 recipients are awarded up to $700,000 over two years in addition to access to HDI’s Innovation Support Center, where industry experts provide critical commercialization assistance and financial resources to form the discoveries into products. Nicole Calakos, MD, PhD, associate professor of neurology and neurobiology, also received the Harrington Scholar-Innovator grant, to develop anti-viral medicines to treat movement disorders.
