Remembering the first day of internship

By ajz6@dhe.duke.edu
It's July 1, which means a new class of interns has started their training in the Duke Internal Medicine Residency Program. Welcome! Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, sat down recently to talk about the strengths of the Duke program, and to share memories of her first day as an intern here at Duke. A new year also means new chief residents:
  • Dr. Krish Patel is chief resident for Duke University Hospital.
  • Dr. Vaishali Patel is chief resident for the Durham VA Medical Center.
  • Dr. Stephen Bergin is chief resident for ambulatory medicine in the various Duke Medicine outpatient clinics.
  • Dr. Joel Boggan is chief resident for quality and patient safety.
What do you remember about your first day as an intern, or about how the chief residents helped guide you through your training? Share a memory in the comments below.
