Rick Bedlack wins Rasmussen Patient Advocate of the Year Award

bedlackaward Richard Bedlack, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (Neurology), received the Rasmussen Patient Advocate of the Year Award from the ALS Association on May 10, 2013. Dr. Bedlack's advocacy work is directed at optimizing ALS care and improving enrollment in ALS research studies. It includes fundraising, lobbying to Congress, writing in patient-centric literature and websites, helping to build new multi-disciplinary ALS Clinics and a VAMC Tele-ALS Clinic, and a novel program called ALSUntangled that utilizes social networking to review alternative and off-label therapies. This is his second national patient advocacy award. In 2009 he won the American Academy of Neurology's Viste Award.
