Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the department, sent this message to Medicine faculty today:
Lori Bastian, MD, MPH, associate professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine), will leave Duke early this summer to join the University of Connecticut Health Center as chief of the Division of General Medicine in the Department of Medicine there.
Lori has served as interim chief of our own Division of General Internal Medicine since 2007, and as senior research associate in Health Services Research at the Durham VA Medical Center. A graduate of Emory University School of Medicine, Lori earned her Masters of Public Health at the University of North Carolina. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine here at Duke, and joined the faculty in 1991.
Among her accomplishments at Duke, Lori authored more than 90 peer-reviewed journal articles about women's health and cancer prevention and detection. She is an active independent researcher, with both VA and NIH funding, and a much-admired medical educator. Lori led her division with skill and grace.
Please join me in thanking Lori for her 25 years of service to the Department of Medicine, and in wishing her all the best in her new role at UConn.
