This week the Duke Institute for Health Innovation (DIHI) announced recipients of the 2018 Innovation Awards. We are proud to see that Kevin Shah, MD, was among the 10 recipients. His project is entitled "Improving Primary Care Access for Residents and Fellows through Electronic Visits."

"Simultaneously this grant will allow us to develop the IT, Clinical and management infrastructure for electronic visits within a primary care setting. The long term vision is this is something we can spread beyond house staff to encompass a broader number of patients."

INTERVENTION:
The study team will develop an innovative GME Trainee Primary Care E Visit Program within Duke Primary Care. The proposed intervention will:
- Develop an E Visit model allowing GME trainees access to virtual primary care services for both acute and chronic care conditions
- Provide a reimbursement mechanism for primary care providers to handle these visits
- Build a comprehensive understanding about how to develop and scale this model to other populations in a large primary care setting
INNOVATION:
The GME Trainee Primary Care E Visit Program will be a novel effort to improve GME trainee access to primary care leveraging an innovative care delivery model. The program will address a real need for Duke trainees and help Duke Health develop scalable E Visit capabilities.
