SoM Seeking Associate Course Director for Practice Course

By wja3@duke.edu
The School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Course Director for the Practice Course. The Practice Course is a longitudinal course spanning the first three years of medical school. The first year of the course teaches medical students the foundation of the patient-physician relationship, communication and interviewing as well as basic physical examination skills. The second year of the course is dedicated to advanced communication skills such as giving bad news as well as discussion of topics related to student clinical experiences. Discussion topics currently include ethics, suffering, spirituality, pain, professionalism, and end of life issues. The third year consists of a continuity clinical experience in an ambulatory setting. To maintain alignment with national requirements for graduating medical students and changes in graduate medical education, the first two years of the course are currently under review for potential revision. The Associate Course Director is expected to begin on July 1, 2015, and will be expected to dedicate approximately eight hours a week to the ongoing development, refinement and implementation of curriculum. The Associate Course Director should also serve as a small group leader in either year 1 (4 hours per week) or year 2 (3.5 hours per week every other month) of the course and will be reimbursed separately for that effort. Applicants should complete the attached application and submit it along with an updated CV to Anne Bowman (anne.bowman@dm.duke.edu) no later than December 31, 2014. Please contact Course Director Nancy Weigle, MD (nancy.weigle@duke.edu) with any questions. Assoc Course Director Application
