Southeast program to fight diabetes wins Health Care Innovation Award, $10 million

A collaborative plan to reduce death and disability from type 2 diabetes among at-risk populations in four underserved Southeastern counties, is among the preliminary Health Care Innovation Awards recipients announced last week by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. "From Clinic to Community: Achieving Health Equity in the Southern United States" is spearheaded by Dr. Califf and Duke University Medical Center along with the University of Michigan’s National Center for Geospatial Medicine. Michigan's Marie Lynn Miranda, PhD, – she is also adjunct professor of environmental sciences & policy at Duke and part of the Duke Center for Geospatial Medicine – presented at Medicine Grand Rounds in September 2011; watch video here.
