Three DOM recipients of SOM Biology of Aging pilot studies

Dean Nancy Andrews, MD, PhD, has announced the recipients of the School's first round of Biology of Aging Initiative pilot studies (original RFA here), and three of the six have gone to Medicine faculty:
  • Kent R. Nilsson, Jr., MD, MA, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology) and Vann Bennett, MD, PhD, James B. Duke Professor of Cell Biology, for Ankyrin-B Mutations, Ethnicity & Premature Senescence.
  • Honggang Wang, MD, PhD, assistant professor of medicine (Cardiology) and Geoffrey Pitt, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (Cardiology), for Age-dependent Decrease in Glucagon-like peptide-1 Receptors Contributes to Cognitive Impairment in the Elderly by Raising Intracellular Ca2+ in Hippocampal Neurons.
  • Bernie Fischer, PhD, associate professor of pediatrics, and Barry Stripp, PhD, professor of medicine (Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine), for Oxidative Stress and Decreased Progenitor Cell Function in the Aging Lung.
