Travel grants available for faculty visits to Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore

The Duke-NUS Medical School Singapore (Duke-NUS) is pleased to announce a call for applications for Duke faculty members interested in visiting the school to engage with Duke-NUS faculty, with the primary goal of exploring potential collaborative research projects. While at Duke-NUS, the faculty member will be expected to present a research seminar.

Interested faculty should submit, by Sept. 30, 2016, a NIH-style bio sketch and a 1-2 page letter describing how their research program would benefit from such a visit and fits with ongoing research initiatives at Duke-NUS. These initiatives are in the areas of Cancer and Stem Cell Biology, Neuroscience and Behavioral Disorders, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and Health Systems and Services Research (https://www.duke-nus.edu.sg/research) as well as in the Clinical Sciences via Academic Clinical Programs recently established with SingHealth.

Visits may be scheduled any time prior to May 1, 2017. Letters should indicate the proposed date(s) for the visit. Applications will be reviewed by a joint Duke-Duke-NUS committee and selections made by Oct. 14, 2016. Priority will be given to Duke faculty members who are making their first visit to Duke-NUS. We anticipate making up to six awards.

Financial support provided for the visit will be:

  1. Round-trip economy airfare from Durham to Singapore. This is per Duke-NUS standard travel (and for this program includes Economy Plus™ on United, Economy Comfort™ on Delta, and Main Cabin Extra™ on American). Flights will be booked through the Office of Duke-NUS Affairs at Duke.
  2. A minimum of three and a maximum of five nights accommodation in Singapore; the visitor must be available at least two days for meetings with faculty and interested parties. Typically, visitors would arrive in Singapore on Sunday or Monday and depart on Thursday or Friday.
  3. A per diem of S$100/day to cover costs associated with food and local travel for the days engaged in professional activities in Singapore.
  4. Transport to and from the airports in Durham and Singapore.
