Earlier this year, Jonathan Bae, MD, assistant professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and Anton Zuiker, director of communications in the Department of Medicine, received a DIHI innovations award for the Voices of Duke Health listening booth and podcast.
"Our goal for this pilot project is to record and share conversations about what gives the people of Duke Health hope, gratitude, awe, and other inspiration to do our jobs and enjoy our lives," said Zuiker.
All Duke Health providers, staff, students, and trainees, as well as patients and visitors, are invited to participate.
"I hope many across the Department of Medicine add their voice to this," said Dr. Bae. "It's easy: find a partner, schedule a time to meet in the listening booth, and have a conversation about what is meaningful in your lives, your work, and your relationships."
The Voices team will record these stories and conversations and present them in the Voices of Duke Health podcast (available this fall) so everyone can learn and be inspired, said Bae.
What's a listening booth?
In September, the team will repurpose the patient resource center in Duke Medicine Pavilion (main level, just behind the front desk) into a temporary recording studio, with professional equipment and a producer to make sure you sound good.
Visit the listening booth at an open house Wednesday, September 5 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Voices is mobile
You may already have seen the our mobile recording cart at the Duke farmers market, Duke Regional Hospital, and the welcome reception for Dr. Kathleen Cooney. We use this cart and its microphone to give even more individuals an opportunity to record a short answer, anecdote, or memory.
Over the next few months, we'll be taking the Voices cart to Duke Raleigh Hospital and events for Medical Alumni Weekend, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Duke Regional Hospital.
