This week the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced new recipients of the prestigious Research Career Scientist Award. We are proud to celebrate the newest awardee in Duke General Internal Medicine, Dr. Corinne Voils. Professor Voils has been a faculty member in DGIM since 2004. Among her many responsibilities she is the co-director of the HSR&D/GIM fellowship. A focus of her research is chronic illness and adherence to treatment regimens.
Prior DGIM recipients of this award are: Hayden Bosworth, PhD, Matt Maciejewski, PhD and Morris Weinberger, PhD.
“It is a true honor to receive this award. It will allow me to focus even more on mentoring fellows and early-career faculty,” says Voils.
As background, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs tells us the award is given to “established, non-clinician, independent investigators and initially provides up to five years of funding. Career Scientists at this level must have a minimum of six years of independent research support (VA or other), and must have current VA/HSR&D project support.”
Many congratulations to Dr. Voils!
