What are your career goals?
I hope to have a career in academia that balances health services research and outpatient clinical responsibilities.

What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I was looking for a program that balanced both clinical and research opportunities.

What are the strengths of the Duke Geriatric Fellowship program?
I think that the strength of the Duke Geriatric Fellowship program is the opportunity to really pursue your clinical or research interests.  There are a number of different clinical experiences during the fellowship that give you insight into the many varying settings and models of geriatric care. Additionally, the program is really receptive to adapting the schedule to fit individual interests. If you are interested in research, the department is also very encouraging about any research interests you may have. Whether it is joining an ongoing study or developing your own project – they will help you reach out to potential mentors and stakeholders.

Other hobbies, activities or scholarly info about yourself that you want to share?
In my free time, I enjoy eating out. Durham has a great restaurant and brewery scene and we love to try new places on the weekends. There’s also a lot of outdoor activities – including many public Durham parks and a nearby state park where we take our dog for walks. When it’s colder outside, I love watching reality TV while knitting/cross-stitching/embroidering.
