Fellow Perspective

What are your career plans in cardiology?
I am pursuing a career in Electrophysiology.

What were you looking for in a fellowship program?
I wanted to work at a high volume, large academic institution within a suburban setting. I sought a fellowship program that felt all-inclusive and focused on individual growth of its house staff.

What are the strengths of the Duke Cardiology Fellowship Program?
The strength of the Duke Cardiology Program includes world-renowned faculty within each department, high-volume of patients with complex diseases, and cutting-edge procedural/surgical treatments. In addition, the presence of a top tier cardiothoracic surgery program helps further patient care. Finally, the Cardiology program is adaptable and meets the changing needs of the fellows!

Why did you choose Duke for your cardiology fellowship training?
Duke Cardiology offered a robust educational curriculum that would grant me the opportunity to pursue my clinical and research interest while also maintaining commitment to the development of a well-rounded cardiologist who would be immediately prepared for practice. The Duke Cardiology program was best equipped to prepare me for a career in either academic medicine, research or private practice.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
The relationship between fellows and faculty are cordial! The faculty are eager to teach and learn and provide you the perfect amount of autonomy to grow as a clinician.

Tell us about your co- fellows. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
My co-fellows have been nothing short of amazing! Each one of my co-fellows are excellent clinicians who come from diverse, well-rounded backgrounds. More importantly, they have equally impressive hobbies and endeavors outside of medicine. Our friendships stem from a background of support, shared interests, and the pursuit of providing the best patient-centered care we can offer.
