Reflections on the Duke Program

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
I would say the three main strengths of the Duke Program are the people, the training and the opportunities. From the program leadership and faculty to the residents, everyone is so supportive and friendly. You will train in a nurturing environment led by experts and whatever your career interests and goals, you will find everything you need here to pursue them.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
The faculty promote and foster autonomy while simultaneously balance oversight and create a fun environment to work in. You will never feel intimidated working with anyone at Duke!

Tell us about your co-fellows. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
They are awesome! I feel so fortunate to work alongside such accomplished, down-to-earth, intellectually curious individuals. Shortly after Match day, we created a GroupMe group and that initially formed the basis of our support for one another and helped facilitate outings.

About Duke University and Durham

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How nice everyone is! Leadership, faculty and co-residents really goes out of their way to help and make you feel valued.

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The food scene, the outdoor activities available, and the weather! Also, Durham's proximity to the beach and mountains, for whenever you're in the mood for a road trip.

Where did you choose to live and why?
My wife and I chose to live on Erwin Road right across the street from the Hospital for the convenience of walking over to the hospital. It's also close to most of the restaurants, grocery stores and breweries.

What are your interests outside of medicine?
Calligraphy, cooking/baking, working out, and travel.
