Reflections on the Duke Program
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a place where I would get strong clinical training while still having some semblance of wellness and balance outside of the hospital during residency.
What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
Duke has a fairly large catchment area, drawing complex patients from all over North Carolina as well as surrounding states. I was also really impressed with the thought that went into the outpatient curriculum. I came in without a ton of outpatient experience so it was important to me to be able to get exposure to subspecialties that are mostly practiced in the outpatient setting early on in training.
About Duke University and Durham
What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I super appreciate how easy of a place it is to live. It is both walkable and drivable (with very little traffic!). Also SO MUCH GOOD FOOD AND BEER.
Where did you choose to live and why?
I chose to live in Downtown Durham. It was really important to me and my partner to be within walking distance of the places we would want to go for fun. It makes it much easier to go enjoy time outside of the hospital when there are tons of restaurants and breweries within a 5 minute walk of our apartment.
