Fellow Perspective
Tell us briefly about your background before cardiology fellowship?
I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, and attended the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics for high school before continuing my education at UNC Chapel Hill. My passion for cardiology stemmed from witnessing the high rates of cardiovascular disease within the Indian community I grew up in. During my residency, I focused on studying the intersection of sex and hypertension, which later expanded into a broader research portfolio. My work now includes multiple randomized controlled trials—such as ARTEMIS and V-INTERVENTION—and the study of anticoagulation in patients with cardiovascular disease.
What are your career plans in cardiology?
I plan to specialize in interventional cardiology while continuing to engage in site-based research alongside my clinical work.
Why did you choose Duke for your cardiology fellowship training?
Duke stood out to me as having the strongest research infrastructure of any program I encountered during my interview process. My experience at the Duke Clinical Research Institute has confirmed this, allowing me to contribute to multiple randomized controlled trials, secondary analyses, observational studies, and reviews. Through the CRT-P program, I also took advanced statistics courses, which have enhanced my ability to conduct and publish meaningful research.
What do you enjoy doing in the Triangle area outside of work?
Dance has always been a big part of my life—I grew up training in Indian classical dance and still love to perform. I also enjoy hiking with my family, especially during the fall, and exploring new restaurants in the area.
