Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
Above all else, I was looking for well rounded training that developed residents in both a professional and personal sense. Duke does an amazing job of emphasizing training while prioritizing well-being!

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The supportive culture developed by the leadership trickles down to all levels of the medicine program allowing for a collaborative work environment.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Very friendly and causal but also supportive and professional. I often find teams chatting about their families, favorite restaurants, and hobbies outside of medicine!

Tell us about your co-residents. What has helped you connect, support each other, and form friendships?
My co-residents are incredibly intelligent and talented in so many ways but also humble. Being surrounded by those who share the same curiosity fosters a collaborative yet fun work environment where friendships develop.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
How nice and welcoming everyone is across all departments and divisions!
