Reflections on the Duke Program

What were you looking for in a residency program?
A strong foundational exposure to medicine ranging from routine management of disease to complex presentations of advanced disease and associated co-morbidities.

What are the strengths of the Duke Program?
The culture of the program paired with the resources for support that go beyond the hospital make the transition to residency and the next stage of medical training seamless. As a future consulting physician (IR) getting to work with consultants from the primary team side has also given wonderful inter-professional insight that will translate well.

What are your observations about the relationships between faculty and house staff?
Respectful, informal and collegial. I have never felt uncomfortable asking for help or identifying limits in my medical knowledge, but rather encouraged through mentorship.

What has surprised you most about Duke?
The longer I stay here the better it gets

About Life in Durham

What is the best thing about living in Durham and the Triangle?
We are financially able to own a home with a wealth of activities from the beach to the mountains and several 1-2hr flights to every major city on the east coast for weekends to go out of town.

How does the Triangle appeal to people of diverse backgrounds?
Mixing pot of great people, many of whom are both socially and environmentally conscious that all collectively enrich the community at large.

Where did you choose to live and why?
We own a home in Croasdaile Farms with my wife, Surya, who is a dermatology resident and was also a prelim here!

What are your interests outside of medicine?
Basketball, Skiing, Soccer, EDM, and our lab-retriever mix, Tyus
