Internal Medicine Residency News- August 12th, 2024
From the Director
It's a busy week in the IM Res! Starting with a chief town hall today at noon conference, our ACRs leading LEADS noon conf on Tues, Stepping in 4 Respect training for the "+2" JARs at my house on Tues evening and the Intern retreat at Dr. Cooney's on Thursday afternoon! Plus, hopefully people have started their pickleball practicing for the First Annual IM Res Tourney AND also getting in some Stead Tread training runs :).
Thank you to the SARs for being diligent about the fellowship interview tracker! As many of you have noticed, there are some snafus with ERAS sending interview invites to emails, so make it a habit to check ERAS as well. I will update you if/when I hear from the national conversation on this ERAS glitch.
Starting next Monday, Noah Kelly will be joining our Med Res Admin Team, be sure to come by and welcome him!

Kudos this week to Neha Pal, Christian Cerda-Smith and Katie Lee from Dr. Alex Horne for their super compassionate and excellent patient care on VA GM, to Michael Dagher from Julian Weiss for his dedicated patient care in teh VA ED, to Meagan Prescott for superior work recognizing an acute patient status change and Hassan Raja for excellent patient care on Duke Gen Med (from Sanjay Gadi), to Zack Dailey and Josh Barton from Shannon McGue for stellar pt care on 9100 from IM Res grad Dr Shannon McGue, to Zina Ibrahim for her help at an RRT from Jimshad Farooque-Wooden, and kudos all around from everyone on last week's 9100 team for phenomenal work and patient care: Amanda Broderick (attg!), Chris Norberg, Kayla Brown, Josh Barton, Zack Dailey, Nick Brazeau, Beth Richardson, Nia M Mitchell, fellow Shannon McGue and NF Juliann Gilchrist. Juliann recognized a patient with an emergent need to transfer to 9100 during NF!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
