Internal Medicine Residency News- August 5th, 2024

From the Director

Happy August! Vacation was amazing – be sure to check out the Iceland souvenirs on the chief fridges! Clearly the chiefs can crush Med Res News as well as the first in IM Res history Olympic Fun Lunch competition.  Love this and congrats to all who came out and showed some awesome spirit and competitiveness!  Excited to see that same spirit at the first IM Res Pickleball tournament (thanks to Reeti Gulati and Ankit Kayastha for organizing!) and of course also the upcoming Stead Tread.

For JARs and SARs who chose to do the exam, the In Training Exam is coming up.  Please watch for instructions about where to go in your emails.  This exam is not meant to be pressure filled, but a good way for you to see where you are in terms of board exam material.

Kudos

Kudos and congratulations to those who received Faculty Resident Research Grants – Hiwot Abate, Clare Anderson, James Davis, Averie Dickinson, Elisabeth Fassas, Reeti Gulati, Ashley Jowell, Valeria Maldonado, Kate Lee, Alison Smith, Auston Steifer and Karen Young.  Also kudos to Roberto Rosario (sent in by Dr Bernal) from a patient’s family for excellent communication, to Meghana Rao from Nivita Sharma for being a great VA ICU partner, to Joseph Goddu from Victor Ayeni for his help as 9100 SAR, to Jeff Lee for his fantastic patient stories display at the Duke Library (go check it out!!), to Sarah Ashley from Michael Dagher for another astute STEMI pickup at the VA, to Michael Rauschenbach from Chief Komal for his lowest rate of readmissions at DRH, to Kelli Avalos and Tyler Gilliken from Karen Young for awesome work at DRH, and to Zach Creech and Vanesa Campos from Maison Furley for being awesome VA long call partners.

PubMed

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Sandra Au whose abstract on pre-liver transplant cardiovascular risk stratification (with mentor Dr. Kara Wegermann) was just accepted to ACG!

Have a great week.  Stop by if you want to see some Iceland pics!
