Internal Medicine Residency News- February 3rd, 2025

Welcome to FUN-bruary! Our DukeFam started the month off strong with their represenatation at the NC ACP and the MBB team added to the fun with a wire to wire destruction of UNC on Sat night.  We have put the loooongest month of the year behind us and look forward to later sunsets, possibly warmer weather despite the groundhog and some fun for Fun-bruary.

HUGE thanks to our SARs for planning and sponsoring the JAR NIGHT OFF! What a #DukeFam way to thank the JARs for their help and coverage during the busy fellowship interview season and to Alexy Novelli for hosting the JAR get together that night.

For this week, we have our first “Overview of Applying for Fellowship” session tonight.  And a HUGE noon conference event with the DUKE IT OUT competition on Tuesday followed by a “Before They Were Stars” event at Dr. Svati Shah’s house Tuesday night.   Are the chief’s JC Penney photos among the funniest things in Duke IM history?  Have your chance to take some photos of your own on Friday at lunch.

Kudos this week to Pat O’Shea and Andres Camino from Dr. Doshi for their help with a patient overnight on NF, also to Andres and Arvind Konkimalla from the VA attendings for great work overnight, to Lorena Millo from the 9100 nursing staff (sent in by Jonas Park) for her amazing communication and patient care overnight, to Josh Kowalczyk, Ray Sadeq and Caitlin Womack for representing at the NC ACP Doctor’s Dilemma, to Sarah Ashley, Ethan Fieger, and Berline Francis for fantastic SAR talks, to Omar Martinez Uribe for representing the chief crew at NC ACP and to Daniel Bujnowski and Kent Sutton for stellar work on a super busy 8E team from fearless leader Kristen McClellan.

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to Cayla Pichan and Kate Lee for mentoring medical students in their NC ACP posters, with Cayla presenting her own poster as well!
