Internal Medicine Residency News - March 31st, 2025

Spring pollen season is upon us as we enter the final week of March Madness (big congrats to Duke WBB on their Elite 8 finish and LGD for Duke MBB in the upcoming Final Four). Vacation with the family is always great and also looking forward to a busy Duke IM Res month as we continue on to the last parts of the year.

Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Huge thanks to Noah Kelly for his amazing contributions to our team – we will miss him as he takes on a promotion to a role as a financial analyst in the Division of General Internal Medicine.

Please see the email from Bridget to send in your Califf Resident Research Award submissions – both for the Grand Rounds presentations and Resident Research Day poster session. JAR fellowship/job meetings continue – if you haven’t found a time yet, please reach out to Bridget who can help you find a time.

Kudos to Komal and Mehvish Safdar on their First Annual Duke IM Pickleball tournament victory and more thanks to Reeti Gulati and Ankit Kayastha for organizing this epic event. More kudos to Rachel Obimah on her excellent SAR talk, to Leela Ekambarapu from Siven Chinniah for procedural successes, again to Leela and to Beth Richardson from Caitlin Womack for amazing VA GM work, to Bret Pinsker from Michael Dagher (and to Michael from Hannah Schwennesen AND Maggie Oliver) for caring for a sick patient at the VA Duke and to Maggie Oliver and Jennifer McMains from Hannah for their awesome CICU work.

This week’s pubmed from the program goes to our IM Res Duke AHEAD Education Day presenters: Komal Safdar, Zoe Shancer,  Madeline Watson and John Demis!

Demis and Watson: Beyond the Echo Chamber: A Train the Trainer Approach to POCUS Education for Duke Internal Medicine Residents

Shancer: Evaluation of the Consultation Process in the Hospital Setting Among GME Residents

Safdar: Real World Training for the Next Generation: A Curriculum for Resident Education Focused on Systems Based Non Clinical Practice Topics and Early Identification and Intervention for Trainees not Meeting Clinical Care Milestones

Have a great week!
