Internal Medicine Residency News, Monday August 14, 2023
From the Director
We had a great time at the Intern Retreat on Thursday! Many thanks to Dr. Cooney for hosting, to Kayla Humphreys for logistics and to all the JARs and SARs who covered for the intern class. Special thanks also to Dr. Van Kirk for taking the lead in planning, to Drs. Boggan, Cosiano, Dominguez and Garbarino for being there and leading small groups, and to Drs. Gil, Kayastha, Lee, Steinhauser and McCrary from the Nasher Art Museum for their teaching as well.
We’ve got the ITE scheduled over the next week or so – for categorical residents, this is all JARs and the SARs who elected to take the exam, as well as all years of combined program residents - please pay attention to your schedule and any emails from Lynsey to direct you where to go.
Kudos
Kudos this week to Emily Jung from now rheum fellow Shannon Herndon for outstanding diagnostic skills, to Richard McLane from Nicole Dussault for awesome day 1 work on Duke GM, to Krunal Amin from Jackie Kercheval for leadership during an RRT, and to Andres Camino, Ray Sadeq, Sam Haddad, Patrick O’Shea, Nandita Singh and Melissa Cutshaw for their great care of all the heme malignancy patients we were seeing on the Tx ID service!

All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
