Hi Fam!

The newest member of the #DukeFam has joined us! Welcome to Julian Thomas Barr to proud parents Matt and Ann Cameron! While Julian will soon become an email expert, let’s direct anything except congratulations to the other members of the leadership team. 

Fellowship applications are in! While every specialty manages their interview calendars differently, the offers will start coming in.  We look forward to working with you to manage your interview process – thanks Chiefs and ResCo for helping make the process as smooth as possible.

I’m hoping to be moved into my new office next to the ACR office this week! Stop in and say hi!

Global Health Pathway is Now Accepting Applications

The Duke Global Health Pathway for Residents and Fellows (GHP) is now accepting applications for the July 2024 program start date. GHP delivers tailored postgraduate training experiences – integrating specialty-specific research opportunities, masters-level didactic training, and close mentorship to develop careers in global health. The GHP offers physicians the opportunity to extend their training by 12 to 24 months to address health disparities in resource-poor settings. Application details can be found on our website. Current Duke residents and fellows from participating subspecialties are invited to apply. Program Director approval is required. All materials should be sent to tara.pemble@duke.edu no later than August 31.

Kudos this week to Mike Ibrahim, Shivy CHandramouli, Nijat Aliyev and Hannah Brown on their amazing SAR talks! What a week of learning!  Also kudos to Patrick O’Shea from Matt Townsend for facilitating a VA->Duke transfer in person, to Lorena Millo and Vanessa Campos from IM alum Dr. DaMarcus Ingram for fantastic patient care on DHP, to Matthew PIsarcik and Shannon McGue from Maggie Oliver for being amazing 9100 teach SARs, back to Maggie, Joseph Locklear, Amber Feng and Juliann Gilchrist from Shannon for their amazing work on 9100, and to Aashutos Patel (from Shannon) for his work as NF, and to Shelief Robbins-Juarez from Apurva Khedagi for outstanding work during very challenging situation.

Employee Health has Expanded Hours!
Based on feedback from team members who are seeking COVID testing so they can safely return to work with EOHW approval, the COVID hotline has expanded hours for employees: 5:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. 7 days per week. 

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources. Another resource is Duke Outpatient Psychiatry Referrals at (919) 684-0100 or 1-888-ASK-DUKE. https://www.hr.duke.edu/pas/
