Happy Wednesday Everyone!
We are flying through the month of January, with “Fun-bruary” coming up fast. We have a few events planned for that month, so be on the lookout for the calendar later this week! Many thanks to the ID Division for an awesome Thirsty Thursday at Ponysaurus – great turnout by residents, fellows and faculty!
From a housekeeping perspective, Dr Hargett and I are finishing up our mid-year meetings. If you haven’t signed up to meet with one of us, please reach out to Vashyra and get a calendar time set! SARs and first half of the alphabet JARs are with Dr. Hargett and interns/second half of the alphabet JARs are with me.
Kudos
Lots of kudos this week, including Dan Weinberg for an awesome SAR talk and Haley Bush for a wonderful Cohen Conference. Also, kudos to Callie Lilley for her GME Good Catch award and Lynette Staplefoot-Boynton for her nomination for the SNMA Dr. Brenda Armstrong Award. It was great to see the IM Fam at the SNMA banquet on Saturday (lookin’ good, Rachel Obimah, Folake Ogunmola, Best Uchehara, Berline Francis, Yajaira Jimenez, Mfoniso Ekpo and Chardonnay Ward!).
More kudos this week to our recruitment zoom crew of Alexy Novelli, Adriana Bracho, Megan Hansen, Garrett Bethel, Alison Smith, Julian Weiss, Shannon McGue, Garret Johnson and Kaela Miller as well as my takers Madhuri Gottham, Julian Weiss, Mike Ibrahim, Katelynn Rennyson, Karen Young and Shelief Robbins-Juarez! Other kudos to Richard McLane from Sarah Morgan for expertly handling a difficult conversation with a patient and their family.
The DukeFam lives large! Kudos post-graduation to Chris Wanjiku and Sarah Moserowitz – found themselves on the same transatlantic flight and co-responded to a medical emergency!
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Friday’s Noon Conference - Duke It Out!, the teaching competition in which three SARs work with faculty coaches to prepare chalk talks on interesting, high-yield topics of their choice. The SAR competitors will face off by presenting their chalk talks in front of a panel of judges (and the rest of the residency!). This year's competitors, Drs. Katie Smith, Lauren Pinion, and Shannon McGue, will all be fantastic-- but only one will emerge victorious as the 2024 Duke It Out! champion! See you there!!

Feeling down? Need to talk to someone? Opportunities for Wellness
All trainees at Duke have FREE access to Personal Assistance Services (PAS), which is the faculty/employee assistance program of Duke University. The staff of licensed professionals offer confidential assessment, short-term counseling, and referrals to help resolve a range of personal, work, and family problems. PAS services are available free of charge to Duke faculty and staff, and their immediate family members. An appointment to meet with a PAS counselor may be arranged by calling the PAS office at 919-416-1PAS (919-416-1727), Monday through Friday between 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Prioritized GME appts are now available also at 6 pm and 7 pm! For assistance after hours, residents and fellows can call the Blood and Body Fluid Hotline (115 inside DUH, 919-684-1115 outside) for referral to behavioral health resources.
