About Me

Londonderry, NH

Why are you interested in a career in Geriatrics?
I love the complexity of caring for older adults and how creative we can be with individualizing our assessment and treatment of our patients.

What are the strengths of the Duke Geriatrics Fellowship Program?
There were several important reasons why I chose to come to Duke for my fellowship. First, the faculty and fellows I met here were all so friendly and welcoming, and their energy and excitement about geriatrics is infectious! Since starting, I have felt valued and respected as a team member, and was able to hit the ground running from day one as a contributor to the important research and clinical work here. Secondly, we work here equally between Duke and the Durham VA.

There is so much great research and innovation at the VA, that I felt it was important to be part of a fellowship that had that exposure. Thirdly, being a lifelong New Englander (besides medical school in Florida), I wanted to check out living in a new part of the country. The Triangle area (Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill) has been a lot of fun to explore, with great live music, BBQ, and fun places to hike.

What are your plans for the advanced fellowship year?
I am pursuing further work in academic scholarship, with a focus on patient and family education, by leading a quality improvement project aimed at improving delirium education for family members. I will also be completing the Certificate in Health Professions Education through the Duke AHEAD program.
