2016 Year in Review

One of our favorite things every year is to look back and re-read some of our favorite news stories from the past year. And those stories, pictures, and videos never disappoint. Our faculty and staff spotlights as well as our announcements of new faculty and staff members are without a doubt our most viewed stories. But 2016 was an exciting year for Duke GIM news as well! Here are the top 10 news stories — those most clicked this year by our GIM eNews readers:

10. Boulware to receive SGIM Mid-Career Mentoring Award (March 2016)

Our Chief of General Internal Medicine, L. Ebony Boulware, MD, MPH, was selected to receive the 2016 SGIM Mid-Career Research and Mentorship Award. SEE THE FULL STORY HERE

9. O’Brien’s multiple funding awards! (March 2016)

Cara O’Brien, MD, assistant professor of medicine, was the recipient of two funding awards. The two projects were entitled, “Implementation of a Duke-specific Early Warning System” and “Collaborative Quantitative Approaches to Problems in the Basic and Clinical Sciences.” READ THE FULL STORY HERE

8. Welcome new chief residents (July 2016)

7. GIM shows out in resident vs. faculty basketball game (May 2016)

Duke residents and faculty entered the legendary Cameron Indoor Stadium on Thursday, April 28, for the annual resident vs. faculty basketball game. 6. Anonymous Donation (August 2016)

An anonymous donor gave $60,000 to the Department of Medicine to support the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The donor made this gift in honor of Brian Wolf, MD, medical instructor in the Department of Medicine (General Internal Medicine) and provider in Duke Signature Care. 4. DGIM holiday celebration recap (December 2016)

2. Faculty Development Academy (October 2016)

The Duke Department of Medicine Faculty Development Academy launched in October 2011 and addresses individual faculty development needs, supplements on-going mentorship, and develops faculty in four high priority career tracks. Congratulations to the 11 GIM faculty members chosen to join the academy. READ THE FULL STORY HERE

1. DGIM Excellence Awards (September 2016)

Our most clicked story of 2016! We did something a little bit different this year at the annual DGIM Wine, Cheese, & Posters event. We wanted to recognize some of the amazing work in our division by giving out the first ever Duke GIM Excellence Awards.
