2/13/14: Large-scale data to precisely diagnose disease

zakLibrary Update: Please note that the School of Medicine has had to cancel this seminar.  Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, co-director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, will be a featured speaker at a seminar hosted by the School of Medicine on Thur., Feb. 13 at 12 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center. Dr. Kohane will present "Large-scale data to precisely diagnose disease. A tale of three 'omes." Kohane applies computational techniques, whole genome analysis, and functional genomics to study human diseases through the developmental lens, and particularly through the use of animal model systems. Kohane has led the use of whole healthcare systems, notably in the i2b2 project, as "living laboratories" to drive discovery research in disease genomics and pharmacovigilance and comparative effectiveness with software and methods adopted in more than 84 academic health centers internationally.
