By admin2
The Duke University Department of Psychiatry and Duke Institute for Brain Sciences are pleased to invite you to attend a special lecture at 7 p.m. on Mon., April 21 to recognize National Autism Awareness Month. The event will be held at Full Frame Theater in the Power Plant Building at the American Tobacco Campus in downtown Durham. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Ron Suskind, author of the new book “Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes, and Autism,” which was recently featured in The New York Times Magazine article “Reaching My Autistic Son Through Disney,” will discuss his family's 20 years of experimentation with his son’s powerful affinity for animated movies as a tool to open new pathways of communication and social connection. Suskind's talk, "No Sidekick Gets Left Behind: A 20-year Journey with Autism," will examine whether those with ASDs are disabled, or untraditional learners, or both, and how to improve their lives and ours. The event is free, but space is limited. Click here to register.
