The Duke Center for Palliative Care is pleased to announce a new annual award to recognize palliative care excellence outside of specialist palliative care services. The Palliative Care Advocacy Award will honor members of the Duke Health community who are NOT part of Duke’s palliative care program who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to integrating the key elements of palliative care into their daily work.
Eligibility: Trainees and Duke Health staff (including home care and hospice staff), as well as Durham VAMC staff, are eligible if they are NOT part of a palliative care team. Eligible disciplines include but are not limited to, physicians, nurses, other clinical staff, researchers, and staff from administration, IT, finance, and pharmacy.
Criteria: Awards will be given to individuals who have consistently demonstrated support of palliative care programs, and/or an exceptional commitment to the principles of palliative care, as well as exceptional skills of communication, decision-making, and pain and symptom management (as appropriate to their discipline).
Process: Brief (2-3 paragraph) nominations should highlight the nominee’s attributes and merits. Examples of specific patient interactions or achievements will be particularly helpful to the review committee. One individual may nominate several people. Nominations of a single individual from multiple people or teams are welcome.
Awards: Awardees will be recognized by a framed certificate, a modest honorarium, a feature in the Duke Health News, and an award lunch with health system leadership.
