Dr. Joel Boggan was a speaker for the recent 2020 Symposium on Quality in Education and Healthcare sponsored by the Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan.
Boggan was invited to speak by two former Duke medicine trainees: Dr. Zainab Samad (Duke Adjunct Associate Professor, Cardioloigy) and Dr. Haroon Khan as well as their colleague Dr. Mehmood Riaz.
Keynote and Panel
The presentation entitled "Approaches to quality improvement in healthcare" was a keynote spot for them. He also participated in an open panel discussion with several of their hospital leaders. The majority of the audience were members from the Department of Medicine which included their residency and medical student directors.
Boggan asserts that we are all wrestling with changes in providing education to learners of all levels during the pandemic. He is optimistic we will all take away some lessons from this experience, including the use of technology to facilitate more of these sessions/conversations without as much travel! They, fortunately, were kind enough to reschedule his talk from 5:30 am to 8 am ET!
Congratulations, Dr. Boggan, on the recognition beyond the walls of Duke, all the way to Pakistan!
