Call for applications from MedBlue Incubator Inc.

MedBlue Incubator Inc. (MBI) is a new, for profit entity founded by and initially capitalized by the Departments of Surgery, Pathology and Anesthesiology, and now includes Medicine Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics (medblueincubator.com). Its mission is to identify and assist in the development of promising ideas, discoveries, innovations, and/or technologies from the faculty that have commercial potential. 

A Steering Committee will review proposed projects for potential inclusion in MBI. Selected projects could receive seed funding, assistance with SBIR and other grant applications, collaborations with corporate entities, formation of spin-out companies and eventual liquidity events. Below are guidelines for faculty to submit a one to two page summary of their project that would provide an initial introduction for the Steering Committee:

  • Brief introduction of overall scope
  • Technology description
  • Development status and proposed milestones
  • Commercial opportunity
  • IP status
  • Potential sources for future funding such as government grants(e.g.SBIR/STTR, NC Bio), strategic partners, prospective investors etc.
  • A yearly budget up to $75,000
