Earlier today Mary Klotman, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine, announced the appointment of Cathy Wood as Vice Chair of Administration for the Department of Medicine. Her first day at Duke will be June 21.
Cathy is moving to Duke from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she has served as vice chair for finance and administration in the Department of Medicine since 2001. She brings a wealth of experience from roles in administrative leadership, clinical practice, operations, and revenue cycle management held over the past 22 years at MUSC.
Cathy fills the position most recently held by Joe Doty, who left Duke in February to take an executive role at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Cathy earned her masters of business administration from the Citadel College of Graduate and Professional Studies, and her bachelor of science degree in accounting from Radford University. She has served in a variety of leadership positions with national organizations, including the Association of Academic Medical Colleges and Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM), for which she served two terms as president. She has been honored with an MUSC Excellence in Action Award and an AIM distinguished service award.
