Clubs that connect colleagues -- an opportunity to meet people and to share interests.
Since both the Department of Medicine (DoM) Book Club (see top photo), led by Dr. Laura Caputo, and the GIM Journal Club (bottom two photos), launched by Dr. Daniella Zipkin, have met recently we thought we would recognize their activities.
On Monday, March 20, a group met for the DoM Book Club. This session featured Cardiology Fellow, Haider Warraich, MBBS, and discussed his new book, Modern Death: How Medicine Changed the End of Life. "We had representation from students, residents, fellows, and faculty, and had a fantastic discussion," says Caputo.
The following Tuesday, March 28, The GIM Journal Club met at the home of Dr. Bruce Peyser to talk all about racial disparities. They reviewed the recent JAMA Internal Medicine article entitled, "Racial Disparities in Medical Student Membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society".
"Both of these clubs are fun social activities that are also promoting personal development and work-life balance"
Second year resident, Dr. Manisha Bhattacharya, attended both of the recent meetings for the Book and Journal Clubs. "Both of these clubs are fun social activities that are also promoting personal development and work-life balance," she said.
The next Journal club meeting will take place in May and the next Book Club will be in early June.
