UPDATE 9/13/2018: Duke University and Duke University Health System will extend the Severe Weather and Emergency Conditions policy to 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. Conditions will be assessed later this weekend to determine if further extension of the policy is necessary.

The latest of Medicine events:
- Geriatrics Grand Rounds, with presentation by chief candidate Cathleen Colon-Emeric, will proceed as planned, Wednewday September 12 at 8 a.m. in the Medicine Chair's Conference Room (DUH 1103).
- Fellows Research Retreat, scheduled on Thursday, Sept. 13, is postponed; research leadership will work to reschedule this event.
- Medicine Grand Rounds on Friday, Sept. 14, is canceled.
- For updates about Internal Medicine Residency activities, including Morning Report, Noon Conference, and meals, residents should monitor the Slack channel and watch for communication from Dr. Zaas and the chief residents.

Basic Science Day, scheduled from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in the Great Hall of the Trent Semans Center, will proceed as planned.

The Robert J. Lefkowitz, MD, Distinguished Lecture scheduled from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 12, will be postponed due to weather & travel disruptions for speaker Dr. James Spudich.

The latest:
- The PDC has announced that its clinics will close Thursday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m. (noon) and remain closed on Friday, Sept. 13. Clinic leaders are notifying patients, and clinics will make every effort to promptly reschedule patients as soon as possible.

Additional notes:
- During the storm, individuals are asked to remain indoors to avoid falling trees and limbs or downed electrical lines.
- Any potential safety-related issues on campus or Duke property, such as downed trees or power lines, should be reported to the Duke University Police Department, 919-684-2444. Unless a situation is life threatening, crews may wait until after dangerous winds have subsided before responding.
- Duke and GoTriangle buses plan to continue to operate as long as it is safe to do so. Once winds reach 35 mph, bus service will be suspended.
- The Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau has created an Emergency Lodging Hotline to provide updates on availability at areas hotels for those searching for a safe place for their family to stay during a natural disaster.
