Diamantidis guest edits ACKD

Clarissa Diamantidis, MD, is known for her passion for clinical research about health disparities and access to care. She has been a member of Duke general internal medicine since 2014 and she is also a nephrologist.

Role as Guest Editor
In the most recent issue of Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease (ACKD) our division is honored to see Dr. Diamantidis as a guest editor along with Dr. Andrew Narva of NIDDK. Dr. Diamantidis contributed the editorial “A Fundamental Theorem of Telehealth.”

Each bimonthly issue of ACKD contains a focused section devoted to a single topic of particular interest, on this occasion we see examples of the applications of telehealth in the field of nephrology. Telehealth aligns with Dr. Diamantidis’ goals, her passion to see improved access to care for many populations, yet with telehealth acknowledging the challenges of privacy and security as well as the problems of regulation and reimbursement. ACKD, the January 2017 issue, covers many of the questions related to this strategy.

ACKD includes second DGIM author
Of the 7 articles in this issue, the co-author of one is our DGIM chief, Dr. Ebony Boulware, a paper titled “Telehealth Applications to Enhance CKD Knowledge and Awareness Among Patient and Providers.” This article tells of the tremendous promise of telehealth to increase general awareness and understanding of kidney disease among patients and clinicians.

And, finally, our DGIM Communications Strategist, Clare Il’Giovine, is credited with the graphic design for the issue cover.

Kudos to all!
