DOM faculty honored at Spring Faculty Meeting

At the Spring Faculty Meeting May 4th at the Duke Gardens, the following Medicine faculty were honored with awards:

William Kane, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (Hematology), received the 2011 Leonard Palumbo, Jr. MD Faculty Achievement Award, which recognizes a member of the School of Medicine faculty who displays dedication to compassionate patient care and excellence in the teaching and mentoring of young physicians.

Anna Mae Diehl, MD, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, received the 2011 Research Mentoring Award for translational research.

Gene Oddone, MD, MHS, professor of medicine (General Internal Medicine) and director of the Clinical Research Training Program, and Laura Svetkey, MD, MHS, professor of medicine and vice-chair for faculty development and diversity, received the 2011 Research Mentoring Award for clinically-based research.

Gerry Blobe, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (Medical Oncology), and Bart Haynes, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Human Vaccine Institute, received the 2011 Research Mentoring Award for laboratory-based research.

Dan Sexton, MD, professor of medicine (Infectious Diseases), received the Master Clinician/Teacher Award.

"It was such a wonderful experience as chair of the Department of Medicine to be at the Spring Faculty Meeting," said Mary Klotman, MD. "There were so many acknowledgements of our department's faculty’s accomplishments, and these individuals brought honor on themselves and the department." Congratulations to them all.
